Registration for the 2026 inter-school athletics season opens on 15 July at secondary schools islandwide, allowing students to join track events at venues such as Choa Chu Kang Stadium and Bedok Stadium.
The new term after the June break brings fresh opportunities for families in neighbourhoods from Yishun to Jurong West to channel energy into structured sports, as the Singapore Schools Sports Council coordinates events that run through November.
Parents can contact the athletics teacher at their child's school or visit ActiveSG hubs in Toa Payoh and Punggol to receive entry forms and training schedules tied to the National School Games.
Last year 14,800 students competed in the athletics portion of the Games, with basic event fees listed at S$35 per participant according to council records.
Students first collect a consent form from their form teacher and submit it by 25 July along with a recent medical clearance from a clinic in their estate. Schools then assign practice slots at facilities like the Bishan Sports Hall on weekday afternoons from 4pm to 6pm.
Those without a school team can apply directly through the ActiveSG app for community sessions held at Kallang track twice a week, where coaches provide initial assessments on the first Saturday of August.
Participants need light running shoes, a water bottle and a simple singlet, with total starter costs often under S$80 at outlets along Orchard Road. Training begins with basic drills focused on sprints and relays before advancing to hurdles or throws.
Families should check the Ministry of Education website for updated heat guidelines and ensure students complete the required fitness test by 10 August to remain eligible for competitions at the Singapore Sports Hub.
