More than 4,000 participants are expected at the East Coast Park Charity Run on 2 August, with registration now open for the 5km and 10km routes along the park connector.
These events gain traction each July as the school holidays end and working adults look for regular group activities to maintain fitness routines. Community sport culture in Singapore has expanded through free HDB estate facilities and accessible park trails, giving residents straightforward options beyond gym memberships.
The East Coast Park event starts at 7am near Marine Cove and finishes with a post-run breakfast of local hawker fare at the nearby East Coast Lagoon Village stalls. Organisers from the Singapore Running Club will also host a separate charity walk on 16 August that begins at the Singapore Botanic Gardens main gate on Cluny Road and loops through the Heritage Gardens section before ending at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage. Both events link directly to HDB estate gym sessions in areas such as Toa Payoh and Punggol, where residents train in groups three evenings a week on the free outdoor equipment.
Entry fees sit at S$12 for the East Coast Park run and S$8 for the Botanic Gardens walk, with proceeds directed to local health programmes run through polyclinic networks. Health Promotion Board data from the 2025 National Population Health Survey showed 38 per cent of adults aged 18 to 69 took part in at least one organised community fitness activity in the preceding year. Participants can register online through the respective club websites or at any HDB community centre counter by 25 July.
Anyone planning to join should check the event websites for start times and bring a reusable water bottle. Those new to group exercise are advised to speak with a polyclinic doctor before signing up.
